Floating Eagle - a remote-control Sonar Boat
“Floating Eagle” is a remotely controlled boat designed to perform bathymetric survey using side imaging sonar. Bathymetric survey is used to map the river and lake beds, which are then ingested into topographic surveys to improve hydrologic and hydraulic models. Our Floating Eagle will be used in both research and teaching projects and for all our river survey projects throughout Tennessee including Falling Water River near Cookeville and Obion River in West Tennessee.
It was built by Mechanical Engineering Students Matthew Braisted, Corey Devenport, Austin Garrabrant, Mitchell Henderson , John Martin, and Scott Proffitt, as a part of their Senior Capstone Project. The project is jointly funded by CEE and Water Center at the Tennessee Tech University.
