GIS and Hydrology student visit Obion River for a field trip
On October 19th, Dr. Kalyanapu took his GIS and Hydrology Classes to Obion River to perform stream flow measurements and channel survey. Students used USGS top-set wading rods for measuring flow velocities (and will calculate flow using velocity-area method) and performed Total Station and Sonar Survey on the South Fork Obion River.
They also visited the West Tennessee River Basin Authority (WTRBA) in Humboldt, TN, and met with Project Engineer Mr. David Backwood and Executive Director Mr. David Salyers. They learnt about the stream restoration and watershed management projects that WTRBA performs on a regular basis.
The following video is a short compilation of their trip.
